I appreciate it is only August and the days are still warm and sometimes sunny but in only a few weeks time, the evenings will start drawing in and become cooler and you will start to light your stove again. Preparation is the key!

Harsh winter conditions cause fuel worries

Having racked my brains, I can not think of another winter which seems to have been so harsh for many, many years. For over four weeks, we were living with sub-zero temperatures both day and night with just the odd day when the temperatures rose above freezing point. Those of us who have woodburning stoves at home were sitting pretty. When the newspapers starting reporting that the UK had just 8 days of gas left, we were relaxed safe in the knowledge that even if the gas supplies did run out, we would still be able to keep cosy and warm with our stores of wood close to hand. Warnings that energy bills will rise by 60% by 2016

The BBC News Website today published details of an Ofgem report warning that energy prices may increase by 60% before the end of 2016. This would be mainly due to fears that the gas market would remain volatile and that power stations would be nearing the end of their use. The same report also confirmed that the average household bill for gas had increased by 120% since 2001 and that the average household electricity bill had increased by 48% in the same period. Warnings that energy bills will rise by 60% by 2016

 

The One Show Flueless appliance discussion...

Flueless appliances were one of the hot topics on last night's One Show on BBC One. The One Show were saying that large do-it-yourself stores were not advising people when enquiring about Flueless stoves and fireplaces that they must be the secondary form of heating rather than the primary source and this was leading to alot of complaints from customers who now had problems with condensation. Earlswood stove launch

ACR are delighted to announce the lanuch of their first stove, the Earlswood. ACR have had a great deal of input into the design of most of the stoves within their exisiting brands but have never before designed their own stove from start to finish so are over the moon with the response from dealers about the Earlswood stove. ACR have designed the stove to be suitable for UK homes - it has a 5Kw output making it ideal for most homes. It is also DEFRA approved which means you can burn wood on this stove even if you live in a smoke controlled zone but by having a multifuel grate gives you the opportunity to burn smokeless fuels as well if you prefer (or if you happen to run out of wood!) The really large glass panel is kept clean by the powerful airwash so you are assured of an excellent view of the fire. The stove is available from the beginning of October and retails at £695.00 inc vat. Savoy Mk II DEFRA approved

The Savoy Mk II model is now available for woodburning in smoke controlled zones. The model 1340811 has been given DEFRA approval which means that you can now burn wood even if you live in a smoke controlled zone. For more information, please log onto the product pages. She says that environmentally, they're a great way of making heat and they save you money on heating bills. Plus, the range of different styles means they fit into any home decor.
